As afternoon fades into evening, turquoise water, sugar-white sand, and calm bay views take on warm shades of gold, pink, and orange. Whether you want to watch from the beach, take an evening stroll, enjoy dinner by the water, or turn sunset into a family outing, there are plenty of beautiful places nearby.
Here are some of our favorite sunset spots near Miramar Beach.
2375 Scenic Gulf Drive, Miramar Beach
For the classic toes-in-the-sand experience, start right in Miramar Beach.
The Miramar Beach Regional Beach Access sits along Scenic Gulf Drive and offers broad views of the Gulf coastline. Visit South Walton lists parking, restrooms, an ADA-accessible boardwalk, beach wheelchairs, a water fountain, and seasonal lifeguards among its amenities.
Arrive a little before sunset, take a walk along the shoreline, and enjoy the changing colors over the Gulf.
This is one of the easiest choices when you simply want sand, waves, and golden hour without planning a bigger evening.
907 Scenic Gulf Drive, Miramar Beach
Another convenient option is the Scenic Gulf Drive Regional Beach Access.
It offers parking, restrooms, an accessible boardwalk, beach-condition flags, and seasonal lifeguards.
Bring a towel or beach chair and settle in before sunset. Staying a little after the sun drops can be worthwhile too—the sky often continues changing color as twilight begins.
Around 2384 Scenic Gulf Drive
If you’d rather keep moving while the sun goes down, take an evening walk or bike ride along the Scenic Highway 98 Trail.
The paved three-mile route runs near Miramar Beach Regional Beach Access and offers expansive coastline views. Visit South Walton specifically describes the trail as a local favorite for sunsets.
It’s a great choice for couples, families, or anyone who prefers a sunset stroll over sitting in one place.
Consider arriving early enough to explore part of the trail and ending the outing near a beach access as golden hour begins.
9100 Baytowne Boulevard, Miramar Beach
For a completely different sunset atmosphere, head inland to The Village of Baytowne Wharf.
Instead of Gulf views, Baytowne overlooks Choctawhatchee Bay, giving you a beautiful waterside setting for the evening. Visit South Walton notes that when the sun sets over the bay, the village transitions into an active evening destination filled with dining, shopping, entertainment, and family activities.
Make an evening of it:
This is one of our favorite choices for families because sunset can easily become part of a full evening out.
For a quieter waterside setting near Baytowne Wharf, make your way toward Baytowne Marina.
The marina overlooks Choctawhatchee Bay, giving the area an entirely different feel from Miramar Beach’s Gulf shoreline.
At Marina Bar & Grill, Visit South Walton even highlights a sunset tradition: the daily cannon firing and bell ringing.
Grab an early dinner, enjoy the marina views, and stay as daylight fades across the bay.
If you’re looking for sunset with food and a relaxed vacation atmosphere, this is hard to beat.
Want to turn sunset into an experience rather than simply a viewpoint?
Sunset cruises depart from the Baytowne Marina area, offering the chance to enjoy evening colors from the water. Visit South Walton specifically highlights evening cruises departing from the marina.

Schedules and availability vary, so reservations are a good idea.
17000 Emerald Coast Parkway, Destin
A short drive west of Miramar Beach brings you to Henderson Beach State Park in Destin.
The park combines white sand, natural dunes, emerald Gulf water, and a less commercialized shoreline. Florida State Parks specifically lists gorgeous sunsets as one of the experiences visitors may enjoy there.
It’s a particularly beautiful choice if you enjoy photography or want a more natural backdrop.
The park is open from 8:00 AM until sunset, and as of May 15, 2026, day-use visitors need a reservation to enter.
Because admission procedures can change, check the current park information before heading over.
Miramar Beach gives you two very different ways to enjoy golden hour.
Try Miramar Beach Regional Beach Access, Scenic Gulf Drive, or Henderson Beach State Park.
Try Baytowne Wharf or Baytowne Marina.
There’s really no wrong choice—just a different atmosphere.
A little planning can make golden hour even better.
Try arriving 30–45 minutes before sunset. You’ll have time to park, find a comfortable spot, and enjoy the softer pre-sunset light.
Don’t leave immediately.
Some of the most colorful skies appear after the sun drops below the horizon.
Clouds can create dramatic sunset colors, but heavy storms can end your plans quickly. Check the forecast before heading out.
For a beach sunset, consider bringing:
Take everything you bring with you and avoid disturbing dunes or wildlife.
South Walton maintains numerous public beach and bay access points, and visitors should always follow posted access and beach-safety rules.
Staying close to the coast makes spontaneous sunset walks much easier.
Seashell Breeze by Cherished Stays is located in a gated Miramar Beach community just a 4-minute walk from private Scenic Gulf Drive beach access. The home sleeps up to 12 guests and includes beach gear, family entertainment, a game room, a private outdoor space, and plenty of room to relax after a day on the Emerald Coast. Pasted markdown
You can spend the afternoon at the beach, head back to freshen up, and return to the shoreline in time for golden hour without making sunset a complicated outing.
Some vacation moments don’t require tickets, reservations, or a packed itinerary.
Sometimes all you need is a spot by the water and enough time to watch the sky change.
Take a barefoot walk along Scenic Gulf Drive, enjoy dinner overlooking Choctawhatchee Bay, bring the family to Baytowne Wharf, or simply sit together on the sand.
However you choose to watch it, a Miramar Beach sunset is a beautiful reminder to slow down and enjoy where you are. 🌅💙
